Alberta Provincial Nominee Program

There are 3 streams available for an applicant to apply under Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) with their respective requirements to meet.

Streams for entrepreneurs
The AAIP has 4 streams for entrepreneurs who plan to live in Alberta and buy or start a business in the province:
- Rural entrepreneur
- Graduate entrepreneur stream
- Farm stream
- Foreign graduate entrepreneurs stream
Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS)
Eligible applicants must have a valid work permit in their respective occupations whereas post-graduation work permit holders must show educational credentials (degrees/diploma). Following applicants are considered ineligible to apply under AOS.
- Refugee
- Temporary residents staying or working in any other province of Canada other than Alberta
- Live-in caregivers in Canada
- Foreign nationals without valid temporary resident status
Occupation
The Alberta Opportunity Stream is for temporary foreign workers who are already working full-time in Alberta and have a full-time job offer from an Alberta employer in an eligible occupation. An occupation that fits your previous work experience under National Occupational Classification (NOC) skill levels 0, A, B, C and D is eligible to apply.

- Fire fighting chiefs/staffs
- Manager in social, community and correctional services
- Religion based services
- Writers/authors

- Painters, Sculptors and other visual artists
- Court officers and justices of the peace
- Real estate agents
- Athletes
- Dental laboratory assistants/bench workers
- Home child care providers
- Home support workers, housekeepers and related occupations
- Casino occupations
- Taxi/limousine drivers
- Trappers and Hunters
- Harvest laborers
- Amusement, recreation park or sports event operators/attendants
- Grounds maintenance laborers
- Aquaculture/marine harvest laborers
- Mine laborers
- Other service support occupations
- Landscaping and grounds maintenance labourers
- Other sales related occupations
- Other support occupations in personal services
- Judges
- Elementary school and kindergarten teachers
- Other Performers

General Requirements:
- English or French Language: You must provide proof of language proficiency through Canadian Benchmark (CLB) or Niveaux de compétence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) test scores.
- Minimum Test Score: A minimum score of CLB 4 (or NCLC 4) is required for all applicants.
For Specific Occupations:
- Nurse Aides, Orderlies, and Patient Service Jobs:
- English: Minimum CLB 7.
- French: Minimum NCLC 7.
- NOC 0, A, or B Occupations:
- English: Minimum CLB 5.
- French: Minimum NCLC 5.
Additional Requirements:
- Official Test Scores: Language test scores must not be older than 2 years at the time of application.
- Eligible Occupations: The AOS is designed for individuals working in eligible occupations listed in Alberta’s NOC (National Occupational Classification) codes.
Application Process:
- Eligibility: Ensure that your occupation is listed as eligible under the AOS, and you meet the minimum language and work experience requirements.
High School Completion:
- Applicants must have completed high school education in their country of origin. This generally means having a high school diploma or an equivalent secondary education credential.
Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Holders:
- Education: If you are a PGWP holder, you must have completed a post-secondary program of at least one year from an Alberta institution.
- Occupation: Your work experience in Alberta must be directly related to your field of study. This means your job should be in the same field or occupation as the program you completed.
The current occupation must match your work experience at the time of your application with following minimum work experience.
- a minimum of 12 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or
- a minimum of 24 months of full-time work experience in your current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months or both – this work experience can be a combination of experience gained in Alberta, in Canada (outside Alberta) or abroad.
- Post-Graduation Work Permit holders require a minimum of 6 months full-time work experience in your current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months.
Alberta Express Entry Stream
The Alberta Express Entry Stream allows applicants qualified under Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC) Express Entry system.
Applicants will receive a notification of interest before they can apply. Applicants showing strong facts towards the economic development for Alberta will receive a Notification of Interest. Qualified candidates will then be selected from Express Entry pool. Also international graduates are considered under express entry stream.
Self-Employed Farmer Stream
Self-Employed Farmer stream calls for following criteria.
- The applicant must provide proof of prior managerial experience with an existing farming business;
- The applicant must provide documentation as proof of the education, training and work experience necessary to develop a sustaining farming business in the province of Alberta;
- The applicant must submit a proposed business plan for the farming operation;
- The applicant must be able to provide evidence that a Canadian financial institution is willing to provide a financial investment into the proposed farming business;
- The applicant must invest a minimum of $500,000 CAD of equity into the proposed farming business. It is possible that the applicant may be required to demonstrate the ability to invest more than the $500,000 minimum;
- The applicant must have a net worth of $500,000 CAD or demonstrate that he or she has access to these funds from other sources.
