If you’re at risk of or experiencing abuse in your job in Canada, you may qualify for an open work permit for vulnerable workers. This permit allows you to leave an abusive situation and find a new job while protecting your rights as a worker.

Pay the required fees (currently, the open work permit processing fee is $155 CAD, but fee waivers may apply if you are in a vulnerable situation).
After submitting your application, wait for IRCC to review and process it. They may contact you for additional information or evidence. Processing times can vary, so check the current processing times.
If approved, you will receive an open work permit that allows you to work for any employer in Canada, except those on the ineligible list. You must apply for a new work permit before this one expires if you wish to continue working in Canada.
